Buzzing Brampton raised, TOBi releases the video his new Afrobeat inspired single,“Dollas and Cents.” As he continuously connects to his birthplace and roots, the video takes place in Lagos as well as directed by Lagos native, Ifeme C.S. Throughout the video, the lead actress Tiwa Pearl (recently seen in Black is King) talks with TOBi as they playfully dance with each other.
“I was supposed to be in Nigeria in March 2020 for the first time since I left as a child. The pandemic ruined that plan but I still wanted to connect with the motherland and cook up a video across the Atlantic. so that’s exactly what we did and it was a dope experience to work with creatives in the Naija scene. The dancer in the video (Tiwa) was actually cast in Black is King as well and I didn’t know until I was watching it. It’s great to connect with other ppl in the diaspora and keep building those connections,” says TOBi.
Recently the rising star announced his partnership with Same Plate Entertainment/RCA Records with the release of “Dollas and Cents.” The groovy and unapologetic soulful single sonically highlights Black joy as a form of resistance and is produced by Juls. The pair showcase their diverse diasporic lineage and the magic created when working together.
“One of the grooviest records I’ve ever made. A match made in heaven and to think the record was made in less than a week,” says Juls.
