If you love an event with a charitable cause as much as we do, then you won’t want to miss the Concern Foundation’s California Dreaming to Conquer Cancer event taking place July 13, 2019, held annually at the Paramount Studios Backlot. Dedicated Vulkan readers will remember last summer’s Block Party, themed Cancer Crusaders which creatively brought the backlot to life with its superhero theme and positive energy brought on by its 4000+ attendees.  Last year’s Block Party, which celebrated the foundation’s 50th anniversary, successfully raised $1.8 million for cancer research.  The 2019 Block Party not only aims to break last year’s record for fundraising but also celebrates the Carroll Family for the Lifetime of Giving Award.

The Carroll family, which has a 70-year history in Beverly Hills and has worked closely with the Concern Foundation for 44 years, has experienced great loss due to cancer; this has motivated the Carroll family to engage in four generations of giving to the Concern Foundation.  After Judy and Dick Carroll tragically lost Dick’s sister Lolly to cancer in the 1970s, the two set out to make a difference towards cancer research. The couple became involved in the very first Block Party on Rodeo Drive in 1976, turning the event into a massive success. Their dedication to the cause demonstrated during this first Block Party established their intimate relationship with the Concern Foundation.  In addition to Judy and Dick’s involvement, their children and grandchildren continue their legacy of service. John and Lexy Carroll have served on the Concern Board; Lexy, in particular, has served on the Block Party committing as an important part of the Block Party’s even greater success in the past 15 years. Because of their active participation and dedication to the Concern Foundation, the organization is happy to have this year’s Block Party is more than happy to recognize and celebrate the Carroll Family’s contributions.

In addition to celebrating the Carroll Family, this year’s event will offer exciting opportunities for attendees.  Taking place on the backlot of the Paramount Studios, this year’s Block Party will continue the 15-year tradition of celebrating the Best of LA 2019 with feature lounges, photo booths, DJs, and over 75 food and beverage vendors.  No matter your favorite cuisine, this event will have something for any foodie. In addition, the event will feature a silent auction for exciting prizes including concert and event tickets, as well as packages for LA’s best restaurants, staycations, luxurious golf courses and more.  With ticket sales and auction sales, which go towards the fundraising, attendees will have the time of their lives while helping in the fight to make the world cancer free.
