Coming to Netflix this May 1st is Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s brand new limited television series, Hollywood. The show takes place during the golden age of film, although things might not seem as golden.
To jog your memory fairly quickly, Ryan Murphy is known for creating/co-producing some of television’s most memorable shows. His filmography includes Nip/Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, and even Pose! Ian Brennan has also worked alongside Ryan Murphy on Glee as well as Scream Queens.
As the title of their new show suggests, the highly anticipated limited series will examine the history of Hollywood, but in a much more revised way. Set in post World War II, the show will instead allow for actors and directors whose roles that are oftentimes reduced to stereotypical characters based on a variety of factors such as race, gender, and even sexuality, to explore what many of their non-other colleagues were able to enjoy.
Taken directly from the trailer, Jeremy Pope and Darren Criss say respectively, “I wanna take the story of Hollywood and give it rewrite…if we change the way movies are made, I think you can change the world.”
Kudos to Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for exploring more of Hollywood’s interesting past, and for creating a show that will allow for the audience to become educated toward the path that many actors and actresses who defied the norm had to take, in order to work and reach a level of mainstream success.
Make sure to stream the limited series May 1st, only on Netflix.
