After unveiling the poster for his new film yesterday, the trailer for “The French Dispatch” is finally here (I know it’s been a day but it’s been a *long* day of not watching that trailer), and it’s so Wes Anderson I just want to scream and freeze myself until this film comes out.
Filled to the brim with fantastic Hollywood and international actors that have been a staple of Anderson’s films, “The French Dispatch” is described as a love letter to journalists. Set in an outpost of an American newspaper (The French Dispatch) in a fictional French city, the film brings to life stories published in the Dispatch.
The magazine, its design, and just overall aesthetic, is based on the real magazine The New Yorker, a much beloved paper by East Coast intellectuals and California MFA students. Funny enough, The New Yorker got their own mini-adaptation in the form of Amazon Prime’s “The New Yorker Presents,” a collection of short-form documentaries that dramatize their hard hitting journalism and short films based on the fiction published in each issue.
The film stars Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Léa Seydoux, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Liev Schreiber, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Benicio Del Toro. As I said: Filled. To. The. Brim.
