With a quick wit, an infectious laugh, and a phone full of hilarious voice notes turned viral content, Lori Altermann is redefining what it means to reinvent yourself after 50. The comedian, podcast host, and digital creator has built a loyal following of women who show up for her beauty tips, stay for her Bravo commentary, and can’t get enough of her wildly popular (and fictional) “cheating husband” video series. A former stand-up comic and TV host turned stay-at-home mom, Lori now balances life as a content creator with brand campaigns, TikTok Live hosting gigs, and laugh-out-loud videos that touch on everything from menopause to midlife glow-ups. Whether she’s breaking down red carpet looks or sharing her favorite under-eye patches, Lori’s unfiltered take on aging, motherhood, and self-expression proves that it’s never too late to step into the spotlight and have a damn good time doing it.

Vulkan: You started sharing your beauty routine online in 2023, what inspired you to put yourself out there, and did you ever expect it to resonate the way it has?

Lori: After recovering from breast cancer, going through menopause, and being over 55, I knew I had something valuable to share. I’ve always been obsessed with makeup and skincare, and I realized if I was struggling with my skin and body, other women likely were too. I wanted to inspire others to feel and look their best, no matter their age.

Vulkan: Your videos blend beauty advice with humor and relatability. Why do you think that combination connects so strongly with your audience, especially women over 50?

Lori: I’ve always loved making people laugh. Teaching others to laugh at themselves is a gift. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. I feel most beautiful when I’m laughing and helping others laugh too. Sharing beauty advice without taking myself too seriously makes it more relatable. It’s how I’ve always approached life.

Vulkan: You’ve built a loyal following on TikTok, what has surprised you most about the platform and the community you’ve created there?

Lori: I never expected to form such close connections with thousands of people I’ve never met. The parasocial relationships I’ve developed have truly shocked me in the best way. TikTok has been the most supportive platform I’ve ever created content on. I’m continually surprised by how fulfilling it is to engage with my followers. I feel so lucky and blessed to have built this incredible community.

Vulkan: How has your approach to beauty evolved as you’ve gotten older, and what’s one piece of advice you’d give women navigating beauty over 50?

Lori: As I’ve gotten older, my approach to beauty is simplified. I am keenly aware of what makeup products and skin care products work best for me. Whether it’s makeup, fashion, or jewelry, I keep it classic, elegant and easy. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found I need more color, depth, and dimension in my face and hair. My biggest piece of advice? Keep experimenting. When something works, stick with it but don’t be afraid to try new products occasionally. You never know what might be even better.

Vulkan: You’re also known for your Bravo TV recaps and red carpet commentary, what draws you to that side of content creation?

Lori: I grew up completely obsessed with television. I’ve been watching reality TV since “The Real World” debuted on MTV! Bravo checks every box for me. It bridges the generational gap between younger audiences and women like me. I get totally lost in the ridiculousness and fabulousness of it all. It’s pure entertainment and I love every second.

Vulkan: What’s been the most memorable brand collaboration or campaign you’ve worked on so far?

Lori: My dream collaboration has been with a brand I’ve loved since I was a little girl, L’Oréal. I recently partnered with them on their at-home hair color, L’Oréal Paris Excellence. My gray hair grows in quickly between appointments and this product has been a lifesaver. It’s easy, fast, and even I can follow the directions!

Vulkan: As an influencer who didn’t start in her 20s, what would you say to women who feel like they’ve ‘missed the boat’ when it comes to starting something new?

Lori: Starting content creation later in life comes with the advantage of experience and maturity. I can be completely authentic and unapologetically myself and that’s something I don’t think I could’ve done in my 20s. It’s never too late to start something new. In fact, it might be the perfect time.

Vulkan: What are your favorite go-to beauty products right now and are there any cult favorites you think are overrated?

Lori: Some of my go-to skincare brands are PCA Skin, SkinCeuticals, L’Oréal, and RoC. For makeup, I’m loving Haus Labs, L’Oréal, Makeup by Mario, Kosas, Persona, and Rare Beauty. As for cult favorites? I think La Mer is totally overrated.

Vulkan: You’ve become a voice for a generation that’s often overlooked in beauty, what kind of impact do you hope your platform has long-term?

Lori: Honestly, I’ve never felt better in my life. At 56, I have the confidence, the life experience, and the products to feel and look my best. I hope my platform inspires others with hope, humor, and a healthy perspective on beauty at any age.

Vulkan: What’s next for you, any exciting plans or goals you’re working toward in your influencer journey?

Lori: My dream is to be on TV in a comedic role… so stay tuned! I’m dreaming big, and I hope everyone out there is too.
