The harrowing story of divorce opened, with all of the hard truths that come along with a break-up story. Noah Baumbach’s chronicle of a 21st century divorce delivers the pain and drain of terminating a marriage. With world class performances by an all star cast, this film will have you feeling the emotion of the characters going through it themselves. The talents of Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson take us on a painful journey of the ugly affair.

Charlie is a theater director and Nicole is an actress who’s found success acting in his plays. Their lovely story takes a turn for the ugly when the couple decides to separate. As many couples do, Charlie and Nicole agree to stay friends through the process and keep their shared son, Henry, as a priority. Things don’t go smoothly, and the dehumanizing divorce trial takes a huge toll on both parents. The legal formality in which they hoped to stay friends is in the rearview mirror and all that is up ahead is the fleeing hope of getting custody of Henry.

The comedy-drama will take you on ups and downs as legality and love fight for the ultimate decision in Charlie and Nicole’s relationship. Driver and Johansson truly embrace the flaws of their characters while portraying something that will really hit home for viewers. Supporting actors Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, and Alan Alda add to the fire of the knock-out performance. Whether you want to laugh or cry, Marriage Story is a film that will stay close to the heart. The movie is out now and coming to Netflix in December.
