“I have always had an obsession with the color black and used it to apply my personal stamp to everyday household items,” Julian continues. “For example, I turned a bag of M&M’s all black and posted the result on Instagram. The image, and others like it, quickly went viral and spurred on an influx of international followers, especially from the US and Asia. I knew then that I had a concept I should explore further.”
For the F/W 20 collection, Blvck Paris offers eight different variations on the unisex hoodie that ranges from the dense, dark richness of the Velvet Hoodie to a playful, yet subtle contrast of hues create by pattern on the Monogram Hoodie. Other items in the collection come to life with the addition of sophisticated (and appropriately melancholy) artwork such as a skull appearing on the back of a sweater or dark roses seen winding down a sweatpant’s leg.
“In addition to the clothing, we want to bring the ‘all-black-everything’ lifestyle to our customers with our exclusive accessories,” says Julian O’hayon. “Every season we will release some very unexpected items, ones you didn’t know you needed until you see them.”
As mentioned earlier, they also provide accessories in which their F/W 20 collection includes the Blvck Rubber Duck, the best-selling All-Blvck Notebook, and the super chic Blvck icons for iOS 14.
In addition to its Blvck.com retail website, Blvck Paris offered its customers the opportunity to experience the line in person this summer with the successful opening of its first store in Asia. The shop’s monochrome aesthetic ran through every element of the retail experience from its design to unexpected additions like black ice cream, a coffee corner, and a limited edition 3-ft. Blvck Teddy bear.
“Our online business has boomed the last few months and we have adapted by offering digital goods for the first time,” states O’hayon. “In 2021, we aim to launch our home collection and we are currently exploring opportunities to open stores in the US with the first flagship being in Los Angeles as we already have a well-established audience in California.”
