The Union x G-Shock DW5600RBG-1 recolours the American flag in Pan-African hues. It lands November 6 at Union L.A. and online, with Japan a day behind.

Most collaboration watches get a colourway and a press line. The Union x G-Shock DW5600RBG-1 arrives with a century of flag history attached, and it wears every bit of it on the dial.

The design takes an American flag motif and rebuilds it in the colours of the Pan-African flag, which stand for black identity, liberation and shared ancestry. Casio’s square little workhorse becomes a small, legible argument about who gets to be represented in a national symbol.

Two flags, one watch

The references are specific. The Pan-African flag was created by Marcus Garvey and adopted in 1920 by the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League. It went on to inspire the flags of other countries, among them Kenya, Malawi and South Sudan.

The second source is the African-American Flag, made by the artist David Hammons in 1990. Hammons’s flag carries the Pan-African colours. That is the move this watch borrows.

On the DW5600RBG-1 the pattern covers the whole bezel and face, LCD display included, which picks up red and green tints. The band keeper is a multicolour tri-band that nods to the Pan-African flag. Press the backlight and the screen lights up with the Union Frontman logo, a small signature for anyone who looks closely.

Who is Union

Union is a streetwear name with a long memory. The brand was founded in 1989 in Soho, New York City, and opened its Los Angeles store in 1991. The New York shop closed in 2009. Union L.A. is still open at 110 South La Brea Avenue, and the brand also runs stores in Tokyo and Osaka.

That geography shapes the release. The watch goes on sale on November 6, 2026, at store.unionlosangeles.com and in person at Union L.A. Japan follows on November 7 with the DW-5600RBG-1JR. The limited edition has also been announced for Asia, and a worldwide release is expected under the name DW-5600RBG-1.

Streetwear collaborations live or die on whether the idea is thought through. Here the flag does the talking, and the watch is plain enough to let it. One multicolour accent on the band keeper, one logo behind the backlight, and the rest of the surface is given over to the pattern.

If you want one, mark the date. The L.A. store and its website are where it appears first.
