Bonafide horror-core writer/director Eli Roth has been tapped to direct the upcoming “Borderlands,” based on the wildly successful PC game, for Lionsgate.

Set in the near future,  the action-packed “Borderlands” is about four Vault Hunters who travel to a distant planet, Pandora, to hunt down an alien vault. The video game spawned two sequels, also commercially successful.

The film will be produced by Ari and Avi Arad, the latter of whom has had success with Marvel films since 2000’s “X-Men” and 2001’s “Spider-Man.”

Craig Mazin, the genius behind HBO’s “Chernobyl,” wrote the screenplay. “I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio,” Roth said. “I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game.”
