Looking up to his father for guidance and inspiration, Dylan Flashner has been brought up to find balance in his life. Juggling life, work, relationships, and self can get complicated at times so it is good to do so to the best of our ability! At a young age, Flashner knew he wanted to be an entertainer and has been working towards that his whole life. Now based in Los Angeles, the talented artist, both on film and in the recording booth, Flashner is making a name for himself.
Music, acting, and producing. How do you balance them all?
It all comes down to help. Absolutely no one can do all of it without help. From acting coaches, to coworkers, to trainers. I cannot underestimate how important those kinds of people are to me. None of it happens without them.
In what ways do your different careers come together?
Acting and producing are hand n hand. I view acting as the micro and the producing as the macro. Together, I get to see the entire picture of a film. Whereas, music allowed me to become the artist that I am in acting. Music showed me that sharing my insecurities can be a difficult task, but ultimately leads to the best product. Becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable is crucial.
Do you recall the moment you knew you wanted to be part of the entertainment industry?
I don’t think there was even a moment. But probably since I was 4 or 5 years old, I knew I wanted to be an entertainer. Over the years, that idea has taken many shapes. It started as a dream to be an athlete myself, to a sportscaster, rapper, and now an actor as well. For so long, I just knew I wanted to entertain. Regardless of whether or not I knew what that entailed.
What is one genre of music you would like to play with but feel like you might not be able to do so ?
For some reason, I have been always drawn to country. Recently, people have shown that there is some common ground between hip hop and country, from the rhyming schemes to the content. I also have a deeper voice, which would be useful in that genre. I’m just not quite there yet.
Who do you look up to the most?
My dad inspires me every day. More than anything, it is his balance of life. He is an incredible father, a remarkable businessman, and a quality member of our society. That is the exact kind of balance I am striving for in my own life.
In an ideal world, what would you be doing and where would you be living?
As crazy it sounds, I don’t know how much I would change. I am surrounded by an amazing family, I have the best friends, and I get to do what I love for a living. I really can’t ask for too much more than that. I’m filled with gratitude every day.
Have you taken up a new hobby since quarantine?
I’m working on a new role for a film, and the character plays guitar. So I’ve been training for that. I’m absolutely terrible, but I am enjoying the learning curve and the challenges it presents.
Tell us about your latest film Farewell Amor and your character MC. What was one of your most memorable times on set?
The film follows a family that has been reunited after 17 years. There is a distance between them when they first are brought together again, but they find a shared passion in dance. My character, MC, is the host of the local dance battles that the daughter and father attend.
When I first got on set, I was extremely nervous. I couldn’t quite get my lines down correctly and it took me some time to find my rhythm. But everyone on set, from the actors, to the directors, to the production crew, showed me an immense amount of support and encouraged me to shake it off. We got the scene done and it came out incredibly.
Favorite movie of all time?
I’ve done my homework on the classics like Jaws, Forrest Gump, ect. But I’m not sure I have ever enjoyed a movie experience more than Step Brothers. As goofy as the movie is, it is incredibly well done. I laugh my ass off every damn time.
What’s next?
Before the end of the year, we have 4-5 projects we are still trying to get done and shot. I have a music project that I will drop before the end of the summer. And perhaps the most exciting part of all of this is the release of The Comeback Trail and Farewell Amor.
