After months of pre-production was put to a hold, FX has announced that their limited series “Shōgun” is now a go with writer Justin Marks. Branding it a “re-adaptation,” the new series is being developed entirely from scratch, with the same mission statement intact.
“It’s a big re-adaptation in a sense that we had many scripts and were in pre-production, and we ended up for various reasons deciding that we didn’t believe in the production plan and we didn’t think the scripts in their current form were as good as they could be,” said John Landgraf, FX Networks Chairman. “Now we are well into development, and are really excited about the scripts that are coming out of that. We have read multiple scripts, multiple rewrites of scripts, multiple outlines.”
Marks replaced original writer Ronan Bennett. Marks credits include the live-action remake of “The Jungle Book” and most recently “Counterpart” on Starz.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by James Clavell.
