Four years after MAC launched its first Selena Collection in honor of Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla, it announced it will be launching a second collection, this time to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her death.
Selena’s sister Suzette, who has been working on the new collection with MAC for two years, described this collection as a celebration of her sister’s legacy and Latina’s. The details of what products will be in the collection have not yet been revealed, but MAC has announced the return of one product from the previous collection, the Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipgloss.
Grammy award winner Selena Quintanilla was only 23 years old when she was murdered by the manager of her boutiques, who Selena had recently found out was stealing from her. Selena’s life and death made a huge impact and, throughout the years, her family has worked to keep her name and story in the spotlight. In 1997, her family and Warner Bros. produced a biopic, Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez about Selena’s rise to fame, family and husband, and untimely death.
The MAC collection is not the only homage to Selena 25 years after her death. A Netflix series titled Selena: The Series with actress Christian Serratos will air this year as well. The MAC x Selena Reina collection will be out this April.
