What happens when you become so fascinated by someone that you start losing yourself? That’s the question at the heart of this French thriller.
Paolo seems to have a pretty normal life. He works moving pianos, is planning his wedding with his fiancée, Winnie, and has a future ahead of him. But everything starts to change when he reconnects with Téophane Tolbiac, a former classmate who is now running for mayor.
Paolo quickly becomes fascinated by Téophane and the world he lives in. He wants to be around him, be part of his circle, and get a taste of the life he seems to have. But what starts as admiration soon turns into something much more intense.
And honestly, haven’t we all met someone who seems to have the perfect life? The kind of person who makes you wonder what it would be like to be them? For Paolo, that curiosity becomes an obsession, and things start getting complicated.

Meet the Two Main Characters
Téophane, played by Yoann Gasiorowski, is ambitious, charming, and used to getting attention. As he enters the world of politics, he represents everything Paolo wants: success, influence, and a place among people who seem to have it all.
Jérôme Niel plays Paolo, an ordinary guy who slowly becomes caught up in Téophane’s world. The more he wants to be part of it, the more complicated his own life becomes.
Their relationship is what makes the story so interesting. Paolo isn’t just trying to get closer to another person. He’s also chasing a version of himself that he thinks he could become.

More Than Just Politics
Created by French filmmaker Sébastien Marnier, Paolo is a seven-episode thriller set in a small French town. Along with political ambition, the series explores jealousy, social status, and the need to feel accepted.
What makes Paolo interesting is that he doesn’t start out wanting to ruin his life. He already has a relationship and plans for the future. But as he gets pulled deeper into Téophane’s world, he starts putting everything at risk.
The series raises a question that feels pretty relatable: how far would you go to be part of a life you admire?
If you like psychological thrillers with messy characters, secrets, and plenty of tension, Paolo might be worth adding to your watchlist. Because sometimes, the person you want to be like can end up bringing out a side of you that you never expected.
