Everyone, bow down.
Critically acclaimed Mexican cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki has been tapped to shoot David O. Russell’s latest film.
Title and plot details have been kept under wraps, but the film so far stars Christian Bale, Michael B. Jordan, and Margot Robbie. This is Bale’s third collaboration with Russell; his first won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “The Fighter.” This will be the first time Jordan and Robbie will be working with the acclaimed director.
Now, back to Lubezki. His friends gave him the nickname Chivo, which is Spanish for goat, as in G.O.A.T. as in “greatest of all time,” because it’s true.
After making waves in the international market and even garnering some Oscar nominations in the early 2000s, Lubezki crossed the threshold into martyrdom when he won the Oscar for Best Cinematography three times in a row: for 2013’s “Gravity,” 2014’s “Birdman,” and 2015’s “The Revenant.” The latter two were directed by friend and fellow countryman Alejandro G. Iñarritú, while “Gravity” was directed by his other friend and countryman Alfonso Cuarón.
We don’t know what Russell’s movie is about but we know it will be great because Lubezki will be shooting it.
