After Stella McCartney and her biodegradable jeans, Chanel makes a big decision…
At the end of 2019, Chanel signed the ‘Fashion Pact,’ the famous coalition of fashion companies committed to protecting the environment. The French fashion house has launched “Mission 1.5°” and its goal is to commit to the fight against climate change.
Chanel is known for revolutionizing women’s fashion this year and it has decided to commit to 4 axes:
- Reduce emission across Chanel operations by 50% by 2030
- Pledge to transition to 100% renewable electricity for its owned operations by 2025 and has joined the RE100 coalition, a group of influential businesses committed to the use of renewable electricity
- Finance projects of climate change
- Decarbonizing to reduce carbon emissions
To carry out the projects, the luxury house, founded by Gabrielle Chanel, will invest in start-ups and technologies in the field of raw materials and packaging. It will also invest in scientific climate research. The fashion sector is the second most polluting in the world and the marriage between luxury and the environment is aiming to bring our world one step closer to happiness.
