In some good news out of Hollywood, NEON has acquired U.S. distribution for “Possessor,” directed by Brandon Cronenberg.
The second feature from the acclaimed director — who, if you haven’t guessed it, is the son of body-horror filmmaker David Cronenberg — premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. His first feature, “Antiviral,” premiered at Cannes in 2012.
“Possessor,” starring Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, and Sean Bean, follows a corporate agent (Riseborough) who works for a secret organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people’s bodies, driving them to commit violent acts on behalf of the org’s clients.
The film sounds like classic Cronenberg, and already can be tied to having some political commentary, but it’s too soon to get into that.
NEON will be announcing a theatrical date for the film at a later time. They had wild success last year with the Oscar-sweeper “Parasite” and the French masterpiece “Portrait of a Girl on Fire.”
