Vulkan is thinking of you to spend your long days of confinement! Netflix is your best friend, the movie “7. Koğuştaki Mucize”is the most watched movie in France on the platform. While no one has heard of it before, this movie is a huge success on Netflix and social media this week. An advice: prepare your tissues!
“7. Koğuştaki Mucize”,which can be translated as “The Miracle of Cell 7”, begins in 1983 and is the story of Memo, a widowed and mentally handicapped man, who lives with his daughter and grandmother. Wrongly accused of the murder of a child, the daughter of a military officer, he is imprisoned and sentenced to death. First beaten by his cell mates, he wins their friendship. Together with Memo’s relatives, who are also convinced of his innocence, they will try to save his life. “7. Koğuştaki Mucize”is a moving film, executing melodramatic figures with some success. The film is quite extensive, with an ambitious approach to several complex themes such as mental disability, the death penalty, sacrifice and redemption. Note that the lead actor, Aras Bulut Iynemli, delivers a successful performance, which is a challenge when dealing with a disability.
On social media, opinions are divided between those who cry out for the masterpiece, and those who do not fail to note the excessive use of melodramatic tools: sad music, slow motion, sustained close-ups, and sometimes very conventional dialogues… It’s up to you to judge!
