Absolutely loved meeting artist, Awgust, recently on a Vulkan Fever shoot. His energy intoxicating, his smile blinding, and his love warm, this artist is truly someone you want to check out. Love means everything to him, most of his music is about his boyfriend and their story throughout the pandemic. Having chased this dream of making music for a long time, Awgust welcomes the opportunities headed his way with open arms. I’ll let you guys keep reading on to discover more about him…

Share with us what making music means to you and how you hope to make your audience feel.

Making music means a lot to me. I’ve chased this dream for so long now that I’d probably have an identity crisis without it. At the same time, the process of writing this album helped me gain a sense of self. As cliche as this may sound, it was like therapy because it challenged me to be honest with myself during a really tough time, and having that mirror pointed back gave me perspective. So in a way making music has been incredibly liberating.

Hopefully, a real piece of me transmits to the audience and they get a fatal attraction that lets me rip open their heart and tape it back together.

Tell us more about your upcoming releases. What inspired you?

I’ll be releasing my debut album spread out in a couple of segments. The first song is called Boys Don’t Cry, which is also the title for side A of the album. Side B comes out after.

The whole body of work is basically an ode to the worst, yet best year of my life. During that time I had just signed the record deal of my dreams while at the same time beginning to get so well acquainted with depression. I think that’s the kiss and slap I wanted to communicate.

What would be the biggest takeaway you hope your audience gets from the upcoming debut album?

In a nutshell, I hope the listener gets some catharsis and a newfound obsession with me.

Describe to us a collaboration that changed your life. Explain.

I’d say co-writing RIP for Sofia Reyes. The song’s success really opened some doors for me as an artist.

Tell us a story about a time you were faced with a challenge and how you overcame it.

I felt anxiety at a party so I drank tequila.

What does love mean to you?

Everything.
