Billie Eilish is known for her record-breaking music and distinct style. The young artist is often photographed in her trademark baggy tees, oversized bottoms and bulky jackets. She has been vocal about her outfit choices in the past, explaining that it’s her way of “not letting people know everything about her.”
The ‘Bad Guy’ singer turned 18 in December and according to a recent interview with Elle, Eilish shares that she’s beginning to change her perspective.
“I’m gonna be a woman. I wanna show my body,” Eilish tells the magazine. “What if I wanna make a video where I wanna look desirable? Not a porno! But I know it would be a huge thing. I know people will say ‘I’ve lost all respect for her.’”
Eilish has been in the public eye since her early teen years and has been astutely aware of the criticism that has and could come her way. She also explains to the magazine an incident where she noticed a specific comment on one of her videos. It read “Tomboys always end up being the biggest whores.” made in response to Eilish accidentally grazing her own breast. To that Eilish acknowledges “I can’t win.”
Growing up in the spotlight is no easy feat, but Eilish has managed to handle herself with maturity beyond her years. So whatever she has planned for herself in the future, Eilish has already proven herself to be an icon in more ways than one.
