A24 is bringing the period pieces back to style.
The indie-favorite production company has released the first teaser for their upcoming “The Green Knight,” a retelling of the Arthurian myth starring Dev Patel.
Patel plays Sir Gawain, a member of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table and nephew to the monarch. His courage and loyalty are soon tested when he’s forced to confront the mighty Green Knight, a gigantic, green-skinned creature.
The teaser showcases a dark, moody tone to the famous 14th century tale, anchored by director Scott Cooper’s atmospheric look. In the teaser’s climatic moment where Gawain comes face-to-face with the eponymous character, you can clearly see Patel’s inner searching of the character’s strength come to light.
A24 has had a wild year, one filled with awards. Robert Egger’s “The Lighthouse” (whose debut “The Witch” was also a period piece) was nominated for an Best Cinematography Oscar, and both “Uncut Gems” and “The Farewell” had a strong presence at the Independent Spirit Awards, with the latter winning Best Feature (lead actress Awkwafina also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical).
Set to be the studio’s biggest screen count, “The Green Knight” is scheduled to be released May 29.
